Belgian Malinois
The Belgian Malinois is a serious and watchful breed with a strong protective and territorial instinct. This breed excels as a police dog, search and rescue dog and natural guardian. The Belgian Shepherd Dog is a breed of dog, sometimes classified as a variety of the Belgian Shepherd Dog rather than as a separate breed. The Malinois is recognized in the United States under the name Belgian Malinois. Its name is the French word for Mechlinian, which is in Dutch either 'Mechelse' (from Mechelen) or 'Mechelaar' (one from Mechelen). In Belgium, their country of origin, they are known by their Flemish name Mechelse Herder.
History
Throughout time, Belgians have used various dogs to help them in their herding tasks. Through breeding trial and error, they finally developed a dog that was agile, strong, intelligent and loyal. By 1891, these dogs were known as Belgian shepherds. Since that time, four separate versions of the Belgian Shepherd have been developed. They have the same basic body type but with different coats. In Belgium and France these dogs are all registered as Chien de Berger Belge. They are considered one breed with four different varieties. In many other parts of the world, including the United States, each breed is considered separate and distinct. The Belgian Malinois is one of them. In addition to the Belgian Malinois (short, smooth coat), the other Belgian sheep herding dogs include the Belgian sheepdog or groenendael (long black coat), the Belgian tervueren (long coat any color but black) and the Belgian laekenois (wire coat). Of these, only the laekenois is not recognized by the American Kennel Club. The Belgian Malinois, as with other Belgian shepherds, was developed in Belgium. This particular breed was primarily associated with the city of Malines. This dog was bred to be an intelligent and loyal dog and is a favorite in his native land. In 1911, the first Belgian Malinois was imported into the United States and recognized by the American Kennel Club in the miscellaneous group. In 1963 the second importation of the Belgian Malinois took place and popularity of the breed grew quickly. In 1965, the American Kennel Club recognized the Belgian Malinois in the working class and 22 years later the breed was recognized in the herding class.
Appearance and Size
Like all Belgian Shepherds, the Malinois is a medium-sized, hard-working, square-proportioned dog in the sheepdog family. The Malinois is recognized by its short brownish yellow coat and its black ears that stick straight up, cheeks, and muzzle. It resembles a smaller German Shepherd. The Belgian Malinois stands 22 to 26 inches at the shoulder and weighs 60 to 65 pounds.
Personality
The Belgian Malinois is an intelligent, instinctive and protective dog in nature that helps him excel in herding animals and guarding property.

Belgian Malinois Soldier Dogs - About to be abandoned overseas
NO SOLDIER LEFT BEHIND... EVEN OUR FOUR LEGGED ONES. My friends at GRACE Animal Rescue have come to be made aware that 10 Malinois soldiers are going to be retired and left overseas. Their handlers are heartbroken over it. The cost to send them back is too great for the military to warrant the spending for "just a dog" or ten. These dogs need (and deserve) to be brought home. BRING OUR SOLDIERS HOME! Write Them: GRACE Animal Rescue Inc. 531 Main Street #229 El Segundo, CA 90245-3060 Email Them: graceanimalr

Artemis 17 Week Belgian Malinois Puppy Training
This is Artemis, Balzac's daughter (Balzac x Ruby) She is 17 weeks in this video. NOTE: This pup is wearing a pinch collar solely to begin to get used to wearing it, we are NOT using it at all. All the control is accomplished through playing competing drives off each other at this point, no aversives. If you start correcting a puppy like this at a young age, she will callous too much when she gets older. My techniques are designed to keep hard dogs soft, by using the maximum amount of positive motivation du
Puppy Retrieve Lesson Belgian Malinois
One method of teaching the retrieve to a puppy/dog with lots of object possession. I really like how you can see immediate improvement in the handler and dog once the handler becomes aware of his body language. I use this technique on any dog I can build enough drive for prey. I have done it on toy dogs on up to American Bulldogs and Malinois. Lots of little details are not explained in the video but the basic idea is to convince the dog that you are NOT in competition for the object and create the correct
