what is the difference of Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso?

Answers to this question:

lhasas are all around smaller, their bones structure, their skull, less muscle mass, almond shape eyes with a thicker denser coat than a Shih Tzu. Lhasa are also headstrong, assertive and have a tendency to be overprotective of their owners.

I have a Lhasa Apso and disagree with Ms. Connelly's answer above on some points. My lhasa's eyes are not almond shape, they're very round - in fact it was her "button eyes" that drew me to her at the shelter. Her coat is more like human hair than anything. But I will give Ms. Connelly one thing, they are most definitely protective of their owners. Every room I go to, my little sweetie is lying at the door way lol. (I just love that.)

One thing I learned in trying to tell apart a Lhasa from a Shi Tzu is the Shi Tzu's have a big underbite where the lhasa's do not. Hope this helps.

In my experience, Shi Tzu's have a more even disposition. The Lhasa's I have known are taller and bigger than Shi Tzu's.

Check out t he site Small Dogs Paradise. You get a side by side look at both dogs and the history of the breed. It's easier to tell you to about the site than to list the different traits here. One thing in common. Barkers....
