I have two Danes and clip a little each week. They are so tough that I fine the best.

All you can do is find a breeder of this breed that live close and ask them to show you,you have to have the correct nail clippers and they are expensive,or find a charity that can help,but how can u have a dog of this size and not be able to afford his nails clipped,do not do it yourself untill u have been shown you can cut the quick and that will cost you more money.

We have a dog whose nails grow amazingly fast and we just trim the tips until they are the appropriate length. We've had many dogs and dog's nails are dog nails. Trim a bit every couple of days until they are were they should be. It ain't no big thing...relax. Trim a little at a time and nobody will bleed to death.

I would begin by filing every day with a coarse emery board to get the dog used to having it's feet handled. Then a heavy-duty nail clipper and just shave the very end. Do this every few days and eventually the nails will get back to a good length. After the dog is used to being handled by you you will then be able to do once a week nail trimming.

I also have a Great Dane. An emery board does very good, but if you cannot find a course one then a piece of sandpaper wrapped on a thin piece of wood or ruler work very well between clippings. If your dog sits well for other people then you shouldn't have a problem.
